6 Life Lessons For Millennials Struggling With Adulthood

As a 28-year-old girl who quit her job at the age of 26 and traveled for one year, I have learned a thing or two about living life on my own terms.

I’ve had to choose happiness above everything else in order to accomplish my life dreams. It hasn’t been easy as I had to let go of some people and fail at many things to learn how to choose happiness, but I have to admit… it was worth it! I will be sharing six life lessons for millennials to help them slay adulthood.

1. Be True To Yourself

Your emotions don’t make you weak. In fact, they are your strength as they make you who you really are. So, don’t hesitate to express them. Own your emotions and be yourself. Express your personality by being true to yourself. You are the only version of yourself so be genuine. Genuine people are more attractive than someone who tries to fit in.

2. Be Intentional About Your Personal Growth

My friend once said, “If you are the smartest person in a room then you're in the wrong room”. Meaning: you're not best. Allow yourself to learn and keep learning. While you are still young, make up your mindset to work on your personal growth. Challenge your mind to meet new people and to say yes to every opportunity. The more you expose yourself to versatility, the more you learn and grow in your life.

3. Take Responsibility For Your Actions

The blame game is for the weak. People who can not admit their mistakes shield themselves by blaming others. You need to take responsibility for your life. You need to see what was your part in creating the situation you are in. If you don't figure out your mistakes, you’ll be forever repeating them. So, whenever you find yourself in circumstances that do not suit you, you should be okay with saying no. Because this is your life and you are the one to accept or reject things that you can't vibe with.

4. Not Being Perfect Is Okay

Do not waste your time trying to be perfect or trying to attain a perfect lifestyle. This advice is going to save you a lot of time as you grow older. Strive to be happy for yourself and not for others. Adulthood isn't easy. However, you don’t have to buy the most expensive stuff to impress others. Choose to live a lifestyle that suits you. All of you: mental, emotional and physical health.

5. Old-School Mindset Can Hinder Your Success

The old-school mindset is old school for a reason. Sometimes, you can make the best decisions for yourself while others cannot have that same vision for you. So, if you feel like your parents, teachers, boss are not directing you in the right direction, you need to take charge of your life. Sometimes the negative things older people will tell you is mainly a reflection of their worries. They worry because they do not want to see you fail. Know that it is okay to keep secrets from certain people who don’t understand you or your goals.

6. Being Happy Does Not Equal More Money

One can be a millionaire and still be living a miserable life. So, more money is not a scale of being happy. Happiness comes from within. When you are fulfilled knowing that you are doing what you love, this is when you are winning. Happiness is all about being satisfied with your life. And that is true success.

So, Friend, keep maturing, keep growing, and don’t forget to laugh sometimes. Let’s become friends on Instagram and have a coffee in my DMs.
